Post-trip reflections

What worked and what didn't, what caught us by surprise and what we would try to prepare for the next time round.

Itinerary

Side hikes

  • If you want views, do them early in the morning, before setting off for the main route. Clouds roll in around noon / early afternoon - no more visibility.

  • I had planned quite a lot of side hikes early on the way. During the first week I was doing them virtually every day.

Normally this is too much if you are going for just a basic EBC trek, and even though Anna was not joining me on each one of them, it was still a bit too much for her, and she was really tired when we finally got to Chhukhung.

On the other hand, if you plan on summitting one of the trekking peaks early on the route (in my case it was Island Peak (6,189 m) on the 7th day of the trek), such acclimatisation side hikes are really necessary. And they worked very well - I did not have any altitude problems at any point during the whole trek.
