Day 12: Side hike to Kala Patthar

Not really a mountain in itself, more like a big bump on a spur of neighboring Pumori, Kala Patthar offers some of the best photographic opportunities to capture large amounts of Mt Everest, Nuptse and portions of Lhotse.

Distance: 3.5 km
Time: 3 hours

Start elevation (Gorak Shep): 5,163 m
Max elevation (Kala Patthar): 5,643 m
End elevation (Gorak Shep): 5,163 m
Total ascent / descent: 486 m / 486 m
Elevation gain: 0 m

Getting down we are running most of the way. So much fun!

It's amazing watching Subindra flying down the mountain, light like a bird. Again he reminds me of a mountain goat. And it's not surprising - as it later turns out, Subindra has already participated once in the Everest Marathon, and this year is planning to do it again.

Like a bird.
