In the middle of hot summer it's best to go where it's really cold: up the high mountains. And that's exactly what we did.
A week's trip to the Italian Alps started with catching the téléphérique from Chamonix up to Aiguille du Midi (3842 m), from where we walked over Glacier du Géant to Pointe Helbronner (3462 m) and then down the Italian side to Aosta Valley.
Visited Courmayeur, Aosta, went for a trip to Parc Animalier d'Introd, then caught a bus to Cogne and then Valmontey, from where the original plan was to walk first to Rifugio Vittorio Sella, then through Lauson lakes and Herbetet to Rifugio Chabod, from where on the next day we were to climb Gran Paradiso.
Unfortunately though the planned route turned out to go through not really hikeable col north of Herbetet (with no route markings on the way leading there too), which unfortunately forced us to turn back to Valmontey.
Guess the Gran Paradiso would need to wait for another time...
